Bohol school shooting threat probed as authorities cancel classes

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Following a social media post containing a possible threat, Mayor Mark Louie Monungolh of Jagna, Bohol, on Friday announced the immediate suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools in Jagna as a preventive measure.

The decision, Monungolh said, followed an initial preventive security assessment conducted by the Jagna Municipal Police Station, together with other uniformed personnel and in coordination with school authorities.

The writer of the post claimed she or he would target people in at least five schools.

Monungolh stressed that classes were not suspended because of a confirmed incident but were a precautionary measure to protect students and school personnel while the investigation and security operations continue.

School inspections conducted

School inspections are also being conducted as part of the local government’s proactive approach to ensuring the safety of educational institutions.

Monungolh urged school administrators to use modular, online, or other alternative learning modalities when practicable, to ensure that students’ education continues during the suspension.

He also called on parents and students to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and rely only on official announcements from the Jagna local government, the Department of Education, and law enforcement agencies.

The Municipality of Jagna, with the Philippine National Police, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and force multipliers, remain on full alert and will continue security monitoring and round-the-clock visibility patrols until the situation is fully assessed.

Monungolh said an executive order will also be issued to formalize the class suspension.

Jagna, located along the southern coast of Bohol, is about 63 kilometers from the provincial capital, Tagbilaran City. It is one of the province’s key commercial and trading centers, with daily market and port activities.
