An 80-year-old man was killed and two women sustained injuries when the boundary wall of a private company collapsed on a roadside eatery at Mettupalayam during the rains that lashed Puducherry on Thursday (August 6, 2026) night.
The police identified the deceased as Kanna Mani, a resident of Mettupalayam. The two women have been admitted to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) for treatment. The women were running a night eatery, and the deceased man, their relative, was standing next to the shop when the 15-foot-high wall collapsed, the police said.
Though the fire and rescue services personnel arrived at the spot immediately, they could not save the man but they managed to pull out the two women from the debris. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and legislators visited the spot on Thursday night.
