Telangana Minister for Welfare Adluri Lakshman Kumar on Friday (August 7, 2026) urged the Union Government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to take a positive decision to print the portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, on Indian currency notes.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, the Minister announced that he would take up the issue with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the State Cabinet, to persuade the State Government make an official representation to the Union Government in support of the demand.

Later, the Minister extended solidarity to the ongoing peaceful protest organised at Jantar Mantar by the Currency Notes Ambedkar Photo Sadhana Samithi (CAPSS), which has been spearheading a sustained campaign for the inclusion of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait on Indian currency.

Describing Dr. Ambedkar as the architect of the world’s largest democracy, Mr. Lakshman Kumar said the Constitution drafted under his leadership remains the enduring foundation of India’s democratic governance, embodying the timeless principles of equality, liberty, fraternity and social justice.
