From issuing blockchain-based certificates, rolling out high-speed digital connectivity to rural areas to plans for a digital legislature, a number of emerging technologies-based initiatives are on the cards in Telangana, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Friday.

The Minister, who was inaugurating an AI Transformation Conclave jointly organised by GOVconnect and Electronic Service Delivery (MeeSeva) here, cited the plans while pointing to how Telangana was leveraging emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Data Analytics and Quantum Computing to improve governance and public service delivery.

On the State’s digital governance initiatives, he said Telangana had introduced a Digital Cabinet, a real-time government dashboard integrating 20 departments; the country’s first AI-powered data exchange; WhatsApp-based citizen services; and the Mee Ticket platform. There are plans to introduce a Digital Assembly and a Digital Council as part of efforts to modernise governance through technology.

Mr. Sridhar Babu said the government was planning to roll out Blockchain-based certificates to enhance security and authenticity of citizens’ data. Efforts were also under way to extend high-speed digital connectivity to rural areas through T-Fiber while ensuring doorstep delivery of government services to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

The government was implementing paperless administration across departments under the Digital Office Project. Governance must evolve with technological advancements to become more efficient, transparent and citizen-centric, he said.

Chief Economic Adviser to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office and CEO of MITRA Praveen Pardeshi; Centre for Railway Information Systems Managing Director GVL Satya Kumar; National Internet Exchange of India CEO Devesh Tyagi; and Additional Secretary-Direct Benefit Transfer to the Government of India Saurabh K. Tiwari participated in the conclave, the Minister’s office said.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Law and Justice and Minister of State of Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal had recently informed Lok Sabha that 33 out of the 37 State/UT legislatures have signed MoUs – Telangana is one of them -- for implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). Of them, 21 Legislative Houses have been transformed into digital Legislatures under the NeVA project.

The NeVA public portals are equipped with AI-driven multilingual translation tools developed by BHASHINI, enabling content translation into the 22 Scheduled Indian Languages and English. Several safeguards have been incorporated into NeVA software suite to provide the Legislatures with a robust, secure, and resilient digital environment for conducting legislative business.
