PBA game halted by roof leak at Ninoy Aquino Stadium

MANILA, Philippines— A roof leak at Ninoy Aquino Stadium forced the 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup matchup between Magnolia and Meralco to be temporarily halted on Friday night.

Strong rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) caused the leak over the hardwood, prompting venue staff and personnel to attend to the issue at the Manila sporting complex.

The game was officially paused at the end of the third quarter, with Magnolia leading Meralco, 71-70.

The rain intensified following the third-quarter buzzer, worsening the venue issues.

Prior to the stoppage, KJ Buffen led Magnolia in scoring with 22 points. Antonio Hester topscored for Meralco with 22 points.

The game resumed just before 10 pm.

Last July 28, heavy rains also affected a PBA doubleheader, causing flooding around Ninoy Aquino Stadium that stranded fans and players at the venue.
