Noah Wyle, star of HBO's medical drama The Pitt, is officially going to be Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise — for one night. The Writers Guild Foundation (WGF) is holding a benefit reading of one of Star Trek's most famous episodes and several Pitt cast members are lending their talents to the event.

WGF RetroReads Presents: Star Trek 60th is set to happen on Aug. 30, with proceeds supporting the Foundation's operations. That includes programs like a script archive, from which the script for "The Man Trap" will be pulled for the event. "The Man Trap" was the very first episode of Star Trek to ever air and was part of series creator Gene Roddenberry's original pitch for the show. The horror-focused episode sees Captain Kirk, Spock, and other members of the Enterprise crew visiting a remote outpost and coming into contact with a shapeshifting monster.

Wyle will play Kirk and will be joined by Taylor Dearden (Mel on The Pitt) as Spock. Fellow Pitt cast members Katherine LaNasa (Dana), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Shabana Azeez (Dr. Javadi), and Ayesha Harris (Dr. Ellis) are also participating, though none of their roles for the benefit reading have been disclosed yet. The reading will be accompanied by a live score and a replica of the Salt Vampire monster from the episode on loan from the Star Trek Archive. The WGF picked "The Man Trap" because Star Trek premiered in 1966, the same year the Writers Guild Foundation was founded. Roddenberry was also a founding board member of the organization.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. PT and is being held at the Lode Room in Los Angeles. In-person tickets are available now for $66; livestream tickets cost $20. There are currently only two Star Trek shows on air: Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy. The former will end with its fifth season and the latter will conclude after its second season, leaving TV without any Star Trek shows for the first time since 2017.
