The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) collected over ₹133 crore during the special drive from July 3, 2026 so far this half year. This is more than twice the amount (₹52 crore) collected during the corresponding period last month, according to an official in the civic body’s Revenue Department.

The GCC is also preparing to publish the names of major property tax defaulters on its website. Orders have been issued for the exercise, and the list will be uploaded after the process is completed.

Over ₹900 crore is yet to be collected from nearly seven lakh property owners. The GCC has been sending WhatsApp reminders with QR codes to make payments easier, pamphlets and newspaper advertisements are also being issued to encourage taxpayers to clear their dues before penalties are levied, he said.

The campaign was being carried out across all the 15 zones to improve property tax collection and strengthen the Chennai Corporation’s own-source revenue.

“Revenue officials are using handheld digital devices for spot assessment and receipt generation during the campaign. The GCC has around 150 spare handheld machines available for field operations,” the official said.

The special drive will continue till July 31 as part of efforts to improve property tax compliance and municipal revenue, he noted.

Property tax can be paid through GCC tax collectors, government e-seva centres, official website, RTGS/NEFT, Paytm, Namma Chennai mobile application, credit or debit cards, UPI service, cheque-dispensing machines at the Revenue Department, QR codes installed at designated government offices, or the WhatsApp number 9445061913.
