Freezing Bay of Plenty temperatures have left unhoused people facing a night-long battle against hypothermia and illness.

Support organisations say the bitter conditions are placing vulnerable people at greater risk, adding hardship.

The region awoke to another chilly morning on Friday, with Rotorua’s -5.6C its lowest temperature since records
