MGM Healthcare organised a breastfeeding awareness programme in Chennai on Friday, as part of World Breastfeeding Week, bringing together over 100 lactating mothers and healthcare professionals.

Veteran actor Radhika Sarathkumar participated in the programme, which brought together paediatricians, neonatologists, obstetricians, gynaecologists and lactation consultants to address concerns and dispel myths related to breastfeeding.

The week-long programme included poster and rangoli competitions, a reels competition for lactating mothers and a well-baby contest based on exclusive breastfeeding practices. An interactive session with specialists was also held to discuss breastfeeding-related concerns.

According to the press release, MGM Healthcare Managing Director Urjitha Rajagopalan said the hospital encouraged mothers to breastfeed for at least a year and provided support and guidance. Chandra Kumar, Senior Consultant and Head of Paediatrics and Neonatology, said exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months is important for an infant’s nutrition, immunity and development.

The programme was organised by the hospital’s Paediatrics and Neonatology and Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments under its ‘Varam’ initiative.
