CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Catholic Church in Oriental Mindoro formally began a new chapter on Friday (Aug. 7) with the canonical establishment of the Diocese of Calapan and the installation of its first diocesan bishop, Most Rev. Moises Cuevas. The historic ceremony was held at the Sto Nino Cathedral amid torrential rain and was briefly marked by a magnitude 5.4 earthquake that struck neighboring Occidental Mindoro.
