The Bihar government on Friday (August 7, 2026) announced that four new minority residential schools will start academic activities from August, taking the total number of such schools to six in the State.
While addressing the press in Patna, Minority Welfare Department Minister Mohammad Zama Khan said the department has given the nod to build new minority residential schools in 24 districts.
“The construction of four new schools at Jamui, Nalanda, Kaimur and Muzaffarpur has been completed, and the academic session is likely to start from August 17,” Mr. Khan said. He added that this will be in addition to the existing two such schools which are already operational at Darbhanga and Kishanganj.
The department has implemented “Bihar State Minority Residential School Scheme” in the State since 2018-19, he said, adding that at least one minority residential school will be opened in each district under the scheme.
A minority residential school provides high-quality residential education from Class 9 to Class 12 for meritorious minority students, besides offering free boarding, lodging, and books, the Minister said.
With a view to improve educational standards of madrasas, especially located in bordering districts of the State, the department is carrying out “online/smart classes” in association with Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University, Patna and Bihar State Madrasa Education Board, Patna, the Minister said.
“We have made arrangements for providing ‘skill development’ to the students of madrasas so that they can get jobs in different fields,” Mr. Khan said, adding that the skill development programme in madrasas will be run in association with National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), a public enterprise under India’s Ministry of MSME.
The madrasa students are being taught subjects like Hindi, English, Social Science, Science and Mathematics to make them competitive in today’s world, he added.
The department has sent the requisition to Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to fill the 288 posts of teachers to be appointed through TRE 4.0 in ‘residential minority schools’ of the State, Mr. Khan said. He added that the government has approved 481 posts of teaching and non-teaching staffers to operate 13 minority residential schools.
In order to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment among the youth of the minority community in the State, Mukhya Mantri Udyami Yojana (Chief Minister Minority Entrepreneur Scheme) was launched in 2023, Mr. Khan said. Loans amounting to ₹100 crore were disbursed among 1,247 beneficiaries under the scheme in 2025-26. So far, a total of 3,741 beneficiaries have received loans worth Rs 270 crore.
He also said that the Bihar State Haj Committee has been constituted to facilitate and assist Haj pilgrims, and a total of 2,526 pilgrims undertook the Haj pilgrimage through the committee during 2025-26 while the registration process has been completed for a total of 3,637 applicants for the Haj pilgrimage for 2026-27.
