In what marks a defining chapter for one of television’s popular reality shows, Bigg Boss Tamil has opened its doors to common people with its new season, ‘Bigg Boss: The Common Man’. Viewers who have watched celebrities compete in the Bigg Boss house would now get to see everyday people get a chance to enter it.

The initiative, announced by host Vijay Sethupathi, drew thousands of entries, with people from across Tamil Nadu, including students, professionals, homemakers, and content creators, submitting audition videos to secure a place in the iconic Bigg Boss house.

For years, viewers have watched celebrities take on the show while imagining how they would play the game if given the opportunity. Their dream is now set to become a reality.

The selection process included multiple stages, from digital auditions and virtual screenings to group discussions and interviews, before the field was narrowed to the top 50 finalists.

Star Vijay and JioHotstar recently unveiled a promo introducing the personalities who will help identify the final housemates. Former Bigg Boss favourites Aari Arjunan, Raju Jeyamohan, and Oviya will join the selection process as judges, while Maya Krishnan, the Season 7 runner-up, will host the show.

Aari Arjunan said, “We’re not looking for perfect personalities or carefully crafted images; we’re looking for people who are genuine, resilient, and fearless. In the Bigg Boss house, you can’t fake authenticity forever.”

Recalling his days in the show as a contestant, Raju Jeyamohan said, “The biggest lesson Bigg Boss taught me is that being yourself is enough. What excites me most is discovering contestants whose individuality can connect with audiences.”

On being part of the selection process, Oviya said, “The audience has loved contestants who are spontaneous, fearless, and unapologetically themselves. I’m hoping to see real people with real emotions and real stories this season.”

Bigg Boss: The Common Man is all set to premiere on August 16, streaming exclusively on JioHotstar with fresh episodes every day, and will also air on Star Vijay from Monday to Friday at 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 5.30 p.m.
