The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Saturday asserted that it would never go along with the “politics of diversionary tactics”.

Referring to a meeting of Parliamentarians convened by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, the party’s information technology (IT) wing, on its social media handle, criticised the Tamilaga Vettria Kazhagam (TVK)-led government for not answering to the issues concerning the opening of the Mettur dam for irrigation, lack of water in the delta, and the plight of farmers in the region.

“After having ignored the demand of the Opposition for an all-party meeting on the Cauvery-Mekedatu issue, which is there in front of all of us, why is the Chief Minister holding the meeting for a Bill that has not been tabled [in Parliament]?,” the party wondered, questioning Mr. Vijay about the need for convening the meeting “in haste.”

Meanwhile, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, in a statement, announced that his party would hold demonstrations on August 14 at all the district headquarters across the State to criticise the TVK-led government for having “deceived” the farmers in the crop loan waiver issue, being “lax” on the Mekedatu dam controversy, and “not having attempted” to secure the State’s rightful share of the Cauvery water.

He would himself lead the stir in Thanjavur; AIADMK treasurer Dindigul C. Sreenivasan in Dindigul; MGR Mandram secretary C. Ponnaiyan in Tiruvallur; propaganda secretary M. Thambi Durai in Vellore; North Chennai (south-east) district secretary D. Jayakumar and R. Rajendran in Cuddalore; Nagappatinam district secretary O.S. Manian in Nagapattinam; district secretaries for Madurai (suburban-west), Madurai city and Madurai (suburban-east) R. B. Udhayakumar, Sellur K. Raju and V.V. Rajan Chellappa respectively and district secretaries for Coimbatore (suburban-south and central) Pollachi V. Jayaraman and S.M. Velusamy in Coimbatore.

Rebel leaders S.P, Velumani, Natham R. Viswanathan, K.P. Anbalagan, P. Thangamani, G. Hari, and K. C, Veeramani had been asked to hold the demonstrations in Theni, Ramanathapuram, Ranipet, Salem, Kancheepuram, and Tirupattur respectively. However, the name of one of their colleagues, C.Ve. Shanmugam, was not found in the list.
