Andhra Pradesh government has decided to provide suitable land without rental charges, subsidised power supply and viability gap support, wherever required, to facilitate the setting up of mobile towers in uncovered villages and habitations across the State.

The initiative, operationalised through orders issued by the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Department, is aimed at achieving 100% mobile connectivity in the State and ensuring seamless access to citizen services.

Several rural and remote habitations remain outside reliable mobile coverage because of the limited commercial viability of establishing telecom infrastructure in low-density areas. Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) had represented to the government seeking support to expand their networks to such uncovered locations and offset the cost of land and power.

Taking the request into consideration, the government has decided to extend the required support, according to an official release. The assistance will be reviewed every three years to assess whether it needs to be continued in locations where subscriber numbers have increased and the infrastructure has become commercially viable.

The participating TSPs will be required to establish mobile towers and associated infrastructure within the prescribed timelines. The initiative also provides for intra-circle roaming facilities to enable seamless connectivity across telecom networks and ensure efficient utilisation of infrastructure, particularly in locations where multiple standalone networks may not be commercially viable.

BSNL, Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea are part of the implementation framework. The government expects the model to accelerate the expansion of mobile networks in uncovered villages and habitations and provide a scalable pathway towards achieving 100% mobile connectivity across Andhra Pradesh.
