Travelling, especially on long-haul flights, can take a toll on your eyes. The low humidity in aircraft cabins causes tear ducts to dry up, leading to itchy eyes and redness, so keep some lubricating eye drops close at hand to relieve these irritating symptoms.

This can be exacerbated for contact lens wearers, so give your eyes a break and opt for glasses during the flight. And for sleeping, don a soft eye mask, which will also help reduce dehydration. On the ground, UV-protective sunglasses will shield your eyes from dust and prevent squinting.

When it comes to packing toiletries, a morning and a night eye cream are must-haves. For day, look for products containing hyaluronic acid, ceramides and peptides, and use a dedicated retinol formula at night to target fine lines.

And now for the fun stuff. With eye make-up, a multipurpose wind-up colour stick can quadruple as a smudgy eyeshadow, eyeliner, cheek luminiser and lip enhancer when worn over your favourite lipstick (place it in the centre of your lips to increase pout power).

Make space for an eyeshadow palette but pack a proper brush,as the tiny brushes that come with most quads just don’t cut it. The rule of thumb is to find a palette with two universally wearable shades, such as taupe and chocolate, to enable you to build the intensity.

For me, the other essential is a blush shade that doubles as cheek highlighter and can also be worn on eyelids from lash line to brow line. Pair it with black eyeliner and mascara and off you go.
