LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Aside from world-class triathletes, another familiar face was seen roaming the routes of Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu Cebu on Sunday, August 9.

Felipe Cuizon, a taho vendor operating inside The Mactan Newtown, is enjoying brisk sales as thousands of visitors and participants gather for the anticipated triathlon.

Taho may be likened to a pudding made of soy or to sweetened tofu.

“Okay ang halin tungod kay daghan guests, mga participants nangaon silag taho,” Cuizon said, adding that he started selling as early as 2 a.m. to make sure he gets inside before authorities and organizers closed off the roads.

(Sales are good because there are many guests, and participants are buying taho.)

A decade of livelihood

Cuizon, from Barangay Tayud, Consolacion, said he has been selling taho inside The Mactan Newtown for almost 10 years. He added that sales are always bigger during big events like this compared to regular days.

“Nindot kaayo siya nga experience man. Kita mismo nakita gyud nato diri nga nagdula bitaw ang Ironman,” Cuizon added, saying he gets to see the participants in person instead of just watching them online.

(It’s a really nice experience. We see for ourselves that the Ironman is really happening here.)
