Bianca Gonzalez urges public not to forget ‘ghost projects’ as floods hit anew

Bianca Gonzalez called for continued accountability over alleged “ghost projects” involving flood control funds as heavy rains once again triggered flooding in several parts of the Philippines.

In a Facebook post over the weekend, Gonzalez said the onset of successive storms would once again expose areas where flood control funds have been spent on “ghost projects.”

“Nagsimula na naman ang pag-ulan at pagdating ng sunud-sunod na bagyo, magkakaalaman na naman ng mga lugar na ghost project lang ang milyones na flood control budget,” she wrote alongside a banner of an anti-corruption message displayed on a wall.

Gonzalez said ordinary Filipinos who are working hard to provide for their families would once again bear the brunt of the flooding.

“Ang pinaka-mapeperwisyo na naman ay ang mga mamamayang ang nais lang sa araw-araw ay magtrabaho ng maayos at masuportahan ang pamilya,” she added.

The actress-host then urged the public to remember alleged corruption when deciding whom to support in future elections.

“Paalala lang sa lahat na huwag kalimutan, huwag magpabulag, huwag nang ibigay ang suporta sa mga pulitikong kinukurakot ang kaban ng bayan,” Gonzalez expressed.

Gonzalez’s remarks came as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, intensified by Typhoon Dolphin, continued to bring heavy rains over parts of Luzon.

Ilocos Sur and Benguet were placed under red rainfall warning as the habagat intensified, while parts of Metro Manila, including areas in Quezon City, also experienced flooding.

In Baguio City, flooding, landslides and fallen trees prompted the evacuation of 51 families. At least seven people have also died in drowning and landslide incidents linked to the persistent rains.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the southwest monsoon is expected to continue bringing rains in the next few days. /edv
