Nikki Gil earns two academic honors for second degree after decade-long pursuit

Nikki Gil has achieved a new academic milestone as she officially earned her second degree with a highest distinction after a decade-long journey.

The singer-actress earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the SoFA Design Institute and was also named a Best Thesis Awardee.

Gil shared the milestone on Instagram on Sunday, Aug. 9, posting photos from her graduation ceremony where she received her diploma alongside her husband, BJ Albert, and their children, Finn and Maddie.

“Ten years, two kids, one pandemic, countless deadlines, and a whole lot of ‘Lord, please see me through this’ prayers later,” Gil wrote in her post.

The “Glowing Inside” singer said she started her degree in 2016 without knowing how much life would happen along the way.

“I had days when I wondered if I would ever actually finish. But God is good! He knew every season, every delay, every prayer,” she said.

Gil noted that her children “grew up alongside the degree” as she expressed gratitude to her family, friends, classmates, professors, and the staff of SoFA Design Institute for being part of her journey.

“Let this be your reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. Take it from Tita Nikki and her second degree before 40!” the actress-singer concluded the post.

Gil previously graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in English Literature in 2009.

She rose to fame following her stint as MYX VJ. She gained a household name for the 2005 Coca-Cola commercial and for singing the Asian promotional versions of High School Musical songs like “Breaking Free.”

Last year, Gil made headlines after she revealed that her daughter Maddie is diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, a rare condition that affects the heart. /edv
