Alqueza, Padawan, Tan clinch SUGBU bowling shootout titles

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Edgar Alqueza made an impressive return to the winners’ circle after topping Division A of the Sugbuanon Bowlers United (SUGBU) Shootout Tournament and landing a podium finish in the other division on Sunday, August 9, at the SM Seaside City Cebu Bowling and Leisure Center.

Alqueza rolled 762 pinfalls to claim the Division A title. He posted a 226 in Game 2 despite carrying only a 10-pin handicap.The long-time SUGBU president recently stepped down and passed the baton to Australian bowling enthusiast Mark Hodgkinson.

Meggy Sarabia settled for second with 738 pinfalls in Division A, with his best output coming in Game 2 when he rolled 211.

SUGBU bowling’s best of the day: 233

Ted Convocar finished third with 734 pinfalls after producing the division’s highest individual game, a 233 in Game 3. All three bowlers carried a 10-pin handicap.

In Division B, Vivian Padawan dominated with 832 pinfalls, highlighted by her 180 in Game 4 while carrying a 41-pin handicap.

Joma Avila placed second with 822 pinfalls after scoring 204 in Game 2, while Alqueza wound up third with 814 pinfalls, anchored by his 226 in Game 2.

Handicap pinfalls

Cristilyn Tan claimed another division victory in Division C after scoring 844 pinfalls. Her best performance came in Game 4, where she rolled 183.

Orly Enoveso finished second with 798 pinfalls, while Cathy Sarabia took third with 776.

The SUGBU Shootout brought together the organization’s bowlers in a competitive regular tournament at the SM Seaside bowling center, with handicap pinfalls factored into the final standings.
