Alas’ Eya Laure, Alyssa Solomon among SEA V Cup Leg 2 best players

MANILA, Philippines — Eya Laure and Alyssa Solomon emerged as top players in the SEA V Cup Leg 2 after leading Alas Pilipinas women to a historic silver medal finish.

Laure earned her first international award as one of the Best Outside Hitters of the tournament, where the country earned its best finish since 2019.

Solomon won back-to-back Best Opposite Spiker awards in this year’s SEA V Cup, as she dropped 19 to power the Philippines past Indonesia, 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 33-31, and win two of their three matches on Sunday at Chiang Mai Stadium in Thailand.

It was Solomon’s third SEA V Cup award, adding to her first in 2023.

Laure emerged as the leading scorer of Alas with an average of 14.7 points in three games.

The former University of Santo Tomas star unleashed her best game with 22 points to propel Alas past Vietnam on Saturday, before scoring 17 against Indonesia.

Laure and Solomon joined Leg 2 MVP and Best Outside Spiker Sasipaporn Janthawisut of Thailand, who swept Leg 2 for another V Cup championship.

Other Thais shone bright, with Pornpun Guedpard winning the Best Setter and Thatdao Nuekjang bagging the other Best Middle Blocker award. Vietnam’s Tran Thi Bich Thuy was the other Best Middle Blocker, while Indah Guretno Dwi Margiani of Indonesia earned the Best Libero.
