Aubrey Plaza has given birth to her first child, with the actor reportedly welcoming a baby daughter with her partner Christopher Abbott last month.

Girls actor Abbott confirmed Plaza’s pregnancy earlier this year, revealing that the news was “very exciting” before the couple made their red carpet debut as parents-to-be in June.

It now appears that the pair’s child has arrived – with Plaza, 42, spotted holding her newborn after seeing Abbott, 40, in the final Broadway performance of Death of a Salesman on Sunday (9 August).

In pictures shared by TMZ, the actor is seen cradling her child in New York, with a source telling the publication that the couple welcomed a baby girl.

The Independent has contacted Plaza and Abbott’s representatives for comment.

Earlier this year, the Parks and Recreation star announced that she was expecting her first child with Abbott, just over a year after the death of her screenwriter and director husband, Jeff Baena. The Life After Beth filmmaker died by suicide in January last year, aged 47, with Plaza’s representatives telling The Independent: “The family is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time.”

Plaza and Baena married in 2021 after a decade of being together, before quietly separating in 2024.

In April, Plaza’s representatives confirmed that she was pregnant with new partner Abbott, who is best known for playing Marnie’s boyfriend Charlie in Girls as well as roles in Martha Macy May Marlene, James White and Poor Things. A source told People magazine at the time: “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year. They feel very blessed.”

Plaza and Abbott first worked together in the psychological drama Black Bear in 2020, before later starring in an off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea from 2023 until January 2024, which was reportedly revealed in his autopsy report.

Abbott is best known for playing April Ludgate in Amy Poehler’s political sitcom Parks and Recreation, having also starred in Safety Not Guaranteed, superhero drama Legion and the second season of *The White Lotus. *

In August last year, Plaza opened up about processing Baena’s death, telling Poehler on her Good Hang podcast in August: “Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning and really grateful to be moving through the world. I’m OK but, you know, it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.

“This is a really dumb analogy – it was a joke at a certain point but I kind of mean it – have you seen the film The Gorge? It’s like an alien movie with Miles Teller. In the movie, there’s a cliff on one side and a cliff on the other side and a gorge in between, which is filled with other people who are trying to get there.”

She added that after watching the film last February, she thought: “That’s what my grief is like.”

“There’s like a giant ocean of awfulness that’s right there and I see it and at some point, I just want to dive into it and be in it,” she said. “Sometimes I look at it. Sometimes I wanna get away from it. But it’s just always there and the monster people are trying to get me.”
