The Federation of All TNCSC Workers Unions has appealed to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led government not to pursue the initiatives of the previous DMK regime to merge the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation with the Cooperatives Department.

In September last, the TNCSC Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh urged the then DMK government to drop the proposal to transfer the control of fair price shops run by the Corporation to the Cooperatives Department. It demanded that the new practice of deputing officials from the Cooperatives Department for senior-level posts such as zonal/general managers in TNCSC should be discontinued and these posts should be filled by promoting experienced and senior employees from within the Corporation.

A few days ago, the TNCSC Employees Union staged a protest near the Corporation’s Modern Rice Mill (MRM) at Sitherkadu, Mayiladuthurai, demanding the withdrawal of transferring the control of 21 TNCSC rice mills to the Cooperatives Department.

A meeting of trade unions such as CITU, AITUC, INTUC, Labour Progressive Federation, and Anna Thozir Sanga Peravai, all of which were affiliated to various political parties, was held at the AITUC Thanjavur district office on East Rajaveedhi, on August 9, wherein the newly floated Federation of All TNCSC Workers Unions passed resolutions seeking the officials deputed to TNCSC be reverted back to Cooperatives Department and to give up transferring the control of 21 rice mills hitherto that remained under the control of TNCSC to the Cooperatives Department.

Resolutions seeking enhancement of wages and regularisation of employment for workers engaged for procurement of paddy at the direct purchase centres, suspension of collecting money from the DPC employees citing “weight loss”, enhanced wages for those employed in TNCSC godowns and others were passed at the meeting.
