The Peroorkada police here have registered a case against a police recruit trainee for allegedly defrauding his fellow cadets of over ₹7 lakh under the pretext of collecting funds for uniforms.

The accused, Sambhu R. Krishnan, attached to the Kerala Armed Police (KAP) Battalion-3, is accused of siphoning off the funds amounting to ₹7,18,320 to gamble on online betting games.

According to the official complaint lodged by Mujeeb Rahman, Officer Commanding of B Company at the Special Armed Police (SAP) Battalion in Peroorkada, the fraud took place between July 3 and July 13. During the period, the accused served as a member of a uniform committee formed to organise uniform materials and tailoring services for recruit trainees in KAP Battalions-3 and 5 that are stationed at the SAP facility.

Mr. Krishnan allegedly convinced trainees in the battalions to transfer uniform funds directly to his mobile number under the false assurance that he would deposit the payments with the SAP canteen for cloth materials and a society for stitching the uniforms.

Instead of settling the official bills for the uniform materials and tailoring, the accused allegedly diverted the entire collected sum into online betting games, the complaint alleges.

Internal inquiry

The issue came to light after an internal inquiry, leading the Officer Commanding to file a complaint at the Peroorkada police station on Sunday (August 9, 2026).

The police have booked Mr. Krishnan under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
