Pasil online seller killed by gun-for-hire; suspect detained
CEBU CITY, Philippines — An online seller died after she was shot by an alleged gun-for-hire in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Pasil, Cebu City, on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 9, 2026.
The victim was identified as Renevie Tanlangit Inot, 38, single, an online seller and a resident of the said place.
Meanwhile, the suspect, who was immediately arrested, was identified as Jack Jun Abella Cabarrubias, 34, single, jobless, a resident of Tupas St., Barangay Sawang Calero in Cebu City.
The suspect was arrested after he was mauled by families, residents, and bystanders in the area, and sustained several injuries.
Earlier, the Sawang Calero Police Station received a report regarding a shooting incident in the area.
They immediately responded, and when they arrived, the victim had already been transported to Cebu City Medical Center by her live-in partner and son aboard an e-bike for immediate medical treatment.
Kill for ₱20K
Based on their investigation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he was hired by a certain “Gerald” to kill the victim in exchange for ₱20,000.
The suspect added that Gerald wanted to kill the victim because they believed that she was an asset, while some of her sons were allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
Authorities also recovered from the suspect a .45-caliber pistol with a magazine and six live rounds of ammunition.
The firearm allegedly jammed when he tried to shoot residents and bystanders who mauled him.
