Allan Pollard, chief executive of The Trusts, which owns the business, told the Herald on Tuesday that, while no one was physically injured, staff were shocked and shaken.
“We’re all concerned at the amount of verbal and physical abuse that goes on on a daily basis, not just in our stores, but retail in general.”
Police said inquiries were ongoing.
It was the second major robbery at Bricklane in recent years, after a masked man with a firearm burst into the bar in May 2021 and locked a staff member inside a freezer while demanding that another open the safe, at gunpoint.
When the safe could not be opened, the offender fled, leaving the two staff members unharmed but “extremely shaken”.
