The cast of Avengers: Doomsday has always been a bit confusing. It has a sprawling lineup, sure, but it is also lacking some of the most significant, still-active members of the MCU, including ones that seem like logical fits for this storyline. Well, about that.

New Avengers: Doosmday images are surfacing showing four of Doctor Doom’s followers, Boris and the Latverian Witches. They have their own masks and Doom-ish outfits, and look very cool. But fans very much believe that these are far more than just faceless soldiers the teams will have to fight. Namely, two names are coming up more than most.

The common thought is that Boris is actually Doctor Strange, the magic-wielder being a logical choice for an appearance alongside Doom (or at least some evil variant of him). Many note that the costume there even has a hole in the middle where Strange previously got a third eye.

The second is the idea that this is where Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch returns to the MCU after being seemingly killed in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she had been turned into a full villain. Again, her being involved in this storyline makes a lot of sense.

The others? There are less stable theories. The purple one is supposedly Clea, the sorceress who meets up with Doctor Strange at the end of Multiverse and is promptly never seen again. She was played by a big name, Charlize Theron, which made her future absence all the more strange. The fourth? Take your pick. The Ancient One, Comic character Cynthia (Doom’s mother), Lady Death, Sylvie, Agatha. I even saw one guess saying Peggy Carter (let’s be real).

When Avengers: Doomsday did the big “chair” cast reveal, it was said that there would be more secrets and characters than what we saw there. Later, it was confirmed that Chris Evans was returning to join the cast, but past that, only rumors. Bringing back suspiciously missing characters like this would make sense, and hopefully reintegrate them back into the MCU from here. I would not, however, be surprised if they were one-offs as some “alternate universe” versions of these characters, which would be a bummer. That said, real Strange may be corrupted by the Darkhold and Wanda could still be on her villain arc.

I do believe there are secrets hiding under those masks, and I can buy Strange, at the very least. The others? I’m not sure this would or should be how they bring Wanda back, but I’m down with the idea if so. We’ll find out in December, or I suppose in likely leaks before then.
