Seven months after the rank list for the second batch of the Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) was published, rank-holders are still awaiting appointment orders.

Recently, the rank-holders had again met Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan seeking a favourable decision from the State government. They worry that time is fast running out for them as the rank list expires in another five months, on January 30, 2027.

The issue concerns the delayed appointments to 31 notified vacancies in KAS under the rank list that was published on January 30, 2026. The rank-holders point out that in the case of the first batch, the candidates had received the advice memo within two weeks of the rank list being published.

Earlier, the government reported 31 vacancies to the Kerala Public Service Commission after creating a ‘deputation reserve’ on the lines of the All India Services. The number represented 30% of the KAS cadre strength of 105.

Concerned about their future, the rank-holders point out that they had cleared a gruelling three-stage process consisting of the preliminary attended by over 2 lakh candidates, the mains and the interview with the entire process taking almost a year.

They also point out that after their appointment, they would have to undergo an 18-month training period. They fear that the delay would seriously affect their employment and career prospects.
