Calgary police issued a dangerous person alert shortly after noon on Monday, advising people to avoid the area around Edworthy Park in the city’s southwest.

Residents of the area were also advised to “remain indoors” after police said they were responding to reports of a shooting in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing a large police presence in the area, including officers with guns drawn and the HAWCS (police) helicopter overhead.

About 50 minutes later, police issued an update on social media to say the dangerous person alert was “no longer active as the threat is no longer active.”

However, police said multiple areas of Edworthy Park and the surrounding area would remain closed while officers continued to investigate, and the public was asked to continue to avoid the area.
