A clock counting down to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games has been unveiled in the centre of Queen Street Mall.

The installation was unveiled on Thursday morning — six years, 31 days, nine hours, 36 minutes and 10 seconds out from the Olympics – at the central intersection next to Jimmy’s On the Mall.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Olympic organising committee president Andrew Liveris, deputy premier Jarrod Bleijie and Olympic swimmer Emma McKeon were in attendance.

Also present were ibises, several rustling through rubbish opposite Hungry Jack’s, and some descending on the platform holding the clock just as the presentation began.

“This is the meeting point for Brisbane,” Schrinner told the hundreds of people gathered to watch.

“This is the place where people say, if they’re meeting you in the city, ‘I’ll meet you outside a particular burger joint’ but now they’re going to say, ‘I will meet you at the countdown clock’.”

The logo of luxury watch brand Omega – the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games – is on the clock, along with official Olympic Games branding.

Liveris said it was a “mini” countdown clock, with a larger one to be installed exactly one year out from the event.
