One of Western Australia’s busiest airports, Jandakot Airport, has reopened at first light this morning after a direct lightning strike forced the facility to shut overnight.

Yesterday’s wild weather damaged almost all of the cables to lights on runway and taxi areas, meaning aircraft departing or landing at night would not be able to see the runway of ground markings.

The airport is regularly used by emergency services including WA Police air wing, the RAC rescue helicopter, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Flights are expected to resume as normal this morning as crews rush to have the runways back up and running by tonight.
