Cebu to see fair weather with chances of localized thunderstorms on Tuesday

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuanos could expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains or thunderstorms during the afternoon or evening, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday, August 11.

In its daily forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said these conditions were expected across most of the Visayas due to localized thunderstorms.

Localized thunderstorms are brief but intense weather disturbances caused by surface heating.

Temperatures in Cebu may range from 28 to 33 degrees Celsius today, the bureau reported.

The Visayas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands, will see moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas throughout the day.

Habagat affects Luzon

Meanwhile, Pagasa said much of Luzon would continue to experience rains due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat, on Tuesday.

Occasional rains are expected in Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.

Scattered rains and thunderstorms may affect Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Pangasinan, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, and Camarines Norte.

The bureau warned that moderate to heavy rains in these areas could cause flash floods and landslides.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are also expected over northern and western Luzon.

Pagasa Administrator Nathaniel Servando said weather conditions were expected to gradually improve starting today.

He added that rains were expected to persist through Wednesday, although these would be concentrated in areas including Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.

“We advise fellow citizens, especially those in areas affected by the recent heavy rainfall, to be vigilant and, if possible, to rely on official advisories issued by the government,” he said in a Palace briefing on Monday. / with reports from PNA
