‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ surpasses P1 billion in PH box office in 12 days

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has recorded over P1-billion gross in the Philippines, just 12 days after it premiered on July 29.

The Marvel film headlined by Tom Holland dominated the local box office, earning a total of P1,055,450,903 during its second weekend in cinemas, according to movie distributor Columbia Pictures Industries Inc.

A cinema at a mall in Mandaluyong City remained the highest-grossing cinema in the Philippines, recording P23,193,075 earnings.

The film’s recent feat follows two record-breaking achievements in the local box office — marking the biggest opening-day gross for a Spider-Man film in the country at almost P96 million and raking in more than half a billion gross during the first five days of its screening.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” also set a new global record after it earned $360 million in its opening weekend in North America, surpassing “Avengers: Endgame’s” $357 million in 2019.

Aside from Holland, the Destin Daniel Cretton-helmed film stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo. /ra
