MPBL: Cabañero powers Biñan past Parañaque

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu’s Nic Cabañero led the scoring charge while Michael Mabulac dominated the interior as Biñan Tatak Gel bounced back from its latest setback with a convincing 110-86 victory over the Parañaque Patriots on Monday afternoon at Paco Arena.

Cabañero paced Biñan with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists, providing the offensive spark the Tatak Gel needed after falling to the Abra Weavers in their previous outing.

Mabulac complemented Cabañero’s production with a strong all-around performance inside, earning Best Player honors after posting a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, along with five assists, while shooting 6-of-12 from the field.

The win improved Biñan to 17-4 in the MPBL 2026 campaign and served as an emphatic response to its recent loss.

The Tatak Gel had to work for it early.

Biñan held only a slim 47-41 lead at halftime before breaking the game open in the third quarter.

The Tatak Gel erupted for 30 points in the third period while holding Parañaque to just 19, turning a six-point halftime advantage into a commanding 77-60 lead heading into the final quarter.

Cabañero and Mabulac helped keep Biñan’s offense humming as the Tatak Gel continued to attack from inside and outside.

There was no letup in the fourth.

Biñan poured in another 33 points, stretching its lead to as many as 27 points before settling for the 24-point victory.

Ryan Isaac Sual also provided a major boost from beyond the arc, drilling four three-pointers on his way to 12 points.

Damian Lasco and Jaymar Gimpayan added 10 points apiece, while Jeric James Pido and John Barba chipped in eight each.

Biñan’s depth was on full display as all 15 players who saw action found the scoreboard. The Tatak Gel shot an efficient 53.7 percent from the field and knocked down 14 three-pointers.

Parañaque was led by Marlon Monte’s 15 points and six rebounds, with Domark Legario Matillano and Paolo Castro adding 13 points each. Jomar Santos scored 12, while Roldan Sara had 11 points and four assists.

Ryusei Koga also handed out 12 assists, but Parañaque could not match Biñan’s offensive production.

The defeat was the Patriots’ fifth straight, dropping them to 2-21.

For Biñan, the victory was a much-needed response after the Abra loss.

Cabañero provided the scoring punch, Mabulac controlled the paint, and the rest of the Tatak Gel followed suit.

After a six-point halftime lead, Biñan turned the game into a rout with a 30-point third quarter and a 33-point fourth.
