Malacañang submits proposed P7.2-trillion budget to House for review

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday submitted to the House of Representatives the proposed P7.2-trillion national budget for 2027, as prepared by the Department of Budget and Management.

With the submission of the National Expenditure Program (NEP), the House committee on appropriations is set to conduct hearings to review and scrutinize the proposed funding allocations for government agencies.

The executive branch prepares NEP, then the House and Senate review and authorize it to become the General Appropriations Bill, and the president signs it into law, transforming it into the General Appropriations Act.

“The budget focuses on education, healthcare, livelihoods, security, and strengthening communities,” said Palace press officer Claire Castro on Monday.

The Marcos cabinet agreed upon the then-undisclosed NEP for 2027 last July 10.

The approved amount of P7.2 trillion is in line with the amount Marcos proposed to Congress when the legislature convenes for its second regular session.

It is P407 billion or 6 percent higher than the P6.793-trillion national budget for 2026.
