SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won gained slightly against the U.S. dollar Tuesday, driven by dollar selling by SK hynix Inc. following its recent U.S. listing.

The won was quoted at 1,415.9 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., up 2.5 won from the close of stock trading the previous day. It marked the strongest level since Oct. 2 last year.

The won opened at 1,415.9 won per dollar and rose to as high as 1,412.2 won in afternoon trading.

Analysts have attributed the won's recent rebound to sizeable dollar inflows after SK hynix converted proceeds from its ADR offering into the local currency.

SK hynix Inc. raised about 40 trillion won (US$28.2 billion) through its American depositary receipt offering on the Nasdaq earlier last month and is expected to use most of the funds for investments in South Korea.

Foreigners bought a net 44.2 billion worth of local stocks during the latest trading session, with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index moving up 0.73 percent to close at 6,345.53.
