PH padel team gears up for Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

MANILA, Philippines– The Philippine national padel team is preparing for its next big challenge — the Asian Games scheduled from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Team captain Argil Lance “LA” Cañizares, Jason Anthony Tamayo Lapidus, Tao Yee Tan and Marian Jade Capadocia are now in Madrid, Spain for intensive training, building towards the quadrennial event as padel makes its debut.

“The Asian Games represents a historic opportunity for padel in the Philippines. The inclusion of padel on this stage reflects the sport’s rapid growth across Asia, and we are committed to ensuring that our athletes are ready to compete against the continent’s best. We hope to showcase not only the talent of our players, but also the progress the Philippines has made in developing the sport,” Padel Pilipinas president Jeff Cheng said in a news release Monday.

“We are proud of what was accomplished at APPC 2026, and now our work continues. The experience gained here will be invaluable as we prepare for the challenges ahead and continue striving to raise the level of padel in the Philippines,” added Padel Pilipinas secretary general, Atty. Duane Santos.

Meanwhile, Padel Pilipinas continues to develop its grassroots programs, training coaches from different parts of the country.
