Minister for Industries and IT P.K. Kunhalikutty inaugurated a morning laboratory at the Kodur family health centre near here on Tuesday (August 11). The lab will begin functioning at 7 a.m., providing greater convenience to the public. He also inaugurated the construction of the main sub-centre of the family health centre. The Minister also launched a project to provide tea and snacks to people arriving for tests in the morning.

In his inaugural address, the Minister said morning laboratories play an important role in disease prevention and timely diagnosis.

He said a special master plan was being prepared for the comprehensive development of various panchayats in Malappuram constituency, incorporating basic infrastructure projects such as roads and drinking water schemes.

Mr. Kunhalikutty also assured that a vehicle and other facilities would be provided to the health centre.

The morning laboratory, which is being launched as part of the Smart Kodur project implemented by the panchayat administration, is the first such facility in the public healthcare sector in Malappuram district.

Kodur grama panchayat president C.P. Shaji presided. Medical officer Mohammed Mustafa, staff secretary Dileep Parishavila, Pariraksha nurse Sunitha, Thorappa Mustafa, who won an award for being the best differently abled farmer, and entrepreneur Malayi Gaddafi were honoured for their outstanding services in the healthcare sector.

The Minister also unveiled the logo of Kodur Technical College.

Block panchayat president Rejula Pelathodi, Kodur panchayat vice-president Jumaila Varikkodan, and standing committee chairpersons K.M. Zubair and Sajnamol Aamyan spoke.

Health and education standing committee chairperson Machingal Mohammed welcomed the gathering. Medical officer-in-charge Sultan Ayanikkunnan proposed a vote of thanks.
