Governor and Chancellor Thaawarchand Gehlot has issued a show-cause notice to C. Shivaraju, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, who was appointed recently.
In a show-cause notice issued on Tuesday (August 11), the Governor sought an explanation from Prof. Shivaraju following a series of complaints on alleged irregularities that took place during his tenure as the Registrar (Evaluation) of Bangalore University.
“Various complaints have been received with serious allegations in connection with your earlier tenure as evaluation registrar. You are requested to submit your point-wise written explanation along with supporting documents within seven days from the date of receipt of this notice,” stated the notice.
The accusations include alleged examination irregularities of marks tampering and evaluation scams, including a criminal case registered at Jnanabharathi police station, which was subsequently stated to have been handed over to the CID for investigations.
It also seeks an explanation about alleged irregularities relating to purchase of marksheets and tender matters, alleged abuse of official position and favouring one company without tender and alleged collection of money from a retired senior professor and other individuals with the promise of securing appointments/jobs.
The notice further reads that the above allegations, if established, are serious and may have a bearing on the suitability to hold the office of the Vice-Chancellor.
In case no reply is received within the stipulated period, the Governor warned that the matter will be considered on the basis of the material available on record, in accordance with law.
Responding to this, Prof. Shivaraju said, “These allegations are contrary to the facts and have caused me deep distress. I have complete faith in the legal process and the authorities concerned and will submit a point-by-point response along with official supporting documents. I am confident that a comprehensive examination of the records will bring out the truth.”
