Toy Story 5 will be released on digital platforms on August 18, 2026.

The Pixar sequel will be available to rent or purchase digitally from participating PVOD services, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, starting next Tuesday. Pixar has also revealed new information about the movie's release on DVD, Blu-ray, and in 4K UHD.

The release date puts the move to digital just under two months after its initial release in theaters, a significantly longer window of exclusivity than we’ve seen for recent big franchise releases like Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu and Masters of the Universe.

The extended run in theaters is unsurprising given the Pixar’s sequel's massive performance at the box office. At the time of writing, Toy Story 5 has grossed over $1 billion globally on an estimated budget of $250 million, and currently sits as the third highest-grossing movie of 2026. Still, Disney has reportedly been laying off Pixar staff in part due to the previous underperformance of Hoppers.

A press release from Disney also revealed new information about the movie’s DVD release, which will include a limited edition 4K steelbook, seen below.

The DVD release will also include a collection of the original Toy Story and Toy Story 5 in 4K, as well as a new collection of all five Toy Story movies. All of these editions will be released on September 22, and while there’s no word on preorders, listings will most likely appear when the movie lands on digital next week.

In terms of what’s next for Pixar, Gatto, an original animated film with a particularly unique art style, is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 5, 2027. There’s been no word on whether we’ll get yet another Toy Story sequel, but one producer has already said a very hard "no" to anything happening with the franchise in live action.

When Will Toy Story 5 Come to Disney+?

Toy Story 5 will eventually join the rest of the Pixar slate on Disney+. Recent Pixar movies, including Hoppers, Elio, and Inside Out 2, all came to the streaming service around three months after their initial release in theaters. If it follows the same pattern, Toy Story 5 will be added to Disney+ in mid-September.
