MOSCOW, August 12. /TASS/. Representatives of Romania's Foreign Ministry, during a meeting with the Russian ambassador summoned to the ministry, displayed "pieces of styrofoam" purporting to be evidence regarding incidents with allegedly Russian drones, while Bucharest did not cite a single fact linking these UAVs to Russia, the Russian embassy told Izvestia.

"During the conversation at the Romanian Foreign Ministry, we were shown pieces of styrofoam, offered to be considered as proof of the 'Russian origin' of the downed drones. However, naturally, no facts linking these drones to our country were provided to us," the diplomatic mission stated.

The diplomatic mission noted that the diplomats had evidently dealt with a pre-staged firing exercise at training targets, the purpose of which was to justify to Romanian society the course toward militarization, accompanied by a significant increase in military spending against the backdrop of a difficult socio-economic situation in the country.

Earlier, the Romanian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that the Russian ambassador had been summoned to the ministry in connection with "repeated violations of Romania's air borders during the period of July 24-26, 2026, when the Romanian army shot down three drones that had entered national territory without authorization." The head of the diplomatic mission was handed a verbal note stating that one of the Russian diplomats must leave the country within five days. In addition, the Romanian ambassador was recalled from Moscow to Bucharest for consultations.
