Japan is seeing a trend of younger people undergoing aesthetic surgery, with a major cosmetic clinic saying the percentage of its patients age 19 or younger had risen 2.6 times in roughly a decade.

Clinics say young people, including junior high school students, mainly get double eyelid surgery to make their eyes appear larger, particularly during long school holidays.

Some of them are even encouraged by their parents to undergo the procedure. Experts say careful presurgery counseling for prospective patients is crucial to making sure they are certain about their decision.
