Cha Eun-woo eyes new drama after 13-billion-won tax payment

Cha Eun-woo is considering a role in the upcoming drama “Seorabeol Knife,” marking a possible first acting project after he paid a 13-billion-won ($9.2 million) tax assessment in April.

Fantagio, Cha’s agency, said Tuesday, Aug. 11, that “Seorabeol Knife” is one of several projects the singer and actor is currently reviewing.

The drama shares a fictional universe with last year’s hit series “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.” Jang Tae-yoo, who directed the 2025 series, will return to direct the new production.

Cha enlisted in the military in July 2025 and is serving with the Defense Ministry’s Service Support Group.

He came under scrutiny earlier in the year after reports that the National Tax Service had imposed a hefty additional tax assessment on Cha for income channeled through a company established by his mother.

The tax assessment was reported to be 20 billion won but was reduced to 13 billion won after a review of overlapping tax categories.

Cha paid the final settlement in full on April 9 but filed an appeal challenging the assessment on Aug. 2.

The singer-actor most recently appeared in Netflix’s “The Wonderfools,” filmed before his enlistment and released in May. /ra
