Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios' Helldivers 2 just dropped on PlayStation Plus. As of Wednesday, the game is available through the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, which means subscribers to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium will get unfettered access to the game.
The addition of Helldivers 2 to the PS Plus Game Catalog coincides with the satirical shooter's next major update, Devoid of Liberty. According to Arrowhead, the Illuminate have expanded their war front with the Void, causing strange mutations on a number of liberty-deprived planets. Players are tasked with destroying Illuminate spires and gateways, completing data reconnaissance, and infiltrating Illuminate structures with a new Super Earth Armed Forces (SEAF) at their side.
SEAF can now appear in Helldivers 2 as a planet modifier. They'll join Helldivers in battle on missions and enhance their combat capabilities with a range of new tools, including stim pistols, heavy machine guns, and more.
The update also includes new secondary objectives, including eradicating Void mutations and extracting research materials, as well as opening secondary extraction zones for faster exfiltration.
Those new Void mutations, as Arrowhead describes them in the game's Steam patch notes, are as follows:
The Crusher is on a deathmarch capable of regenerating while taking heavy damage and needs to be worn down quickly and consistently without a moment of pause.
The Wretch is a relentless and nimble enemy that requires quick trigger fingers and focused aim as they are able to dodge and leap at the player while advancing to quickly dismantle its weapons along with their will to live.
PlayStation Plus Essential costs $79.99 annually, $27.99 for a three-month subscription, or $10.99 monthly, following a price hike across all tiers of PS Plus in May.
Helldivers 2 is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
