Load your rifles and get ready to deliver some democracy to those heathen alien interlopers, because Helldivers 2 comes to PlayStation Plus today. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the game will be added to the roster of titles PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can access as part of its August 2026 update (sorry, Essential-tier subs). The game, developed by Arrowhead Studios, launched back in 2024 and has netted a decent 20 million sales since then.

The addition of the game to PS Plus ties in with the launch of Helldivers 2's latest expansion, Devoid of Liberty. The new content tasks you with destroying Illuminate spires and gateways, completing data reconnaissance, and infiltrating Illuminate structures with your team. The new enemies are "ghoulish diversions wrought into existence by the Illuminate scourge to threaten our freedom", obviously. You can now also unlock 300 ranks, with new "privileges" and rank titles.

"Getting into the Void presents a unique challenge. High Command has ordered reconnaissance missions to gather as much intel as possible in order to give us an advantage," says a press release. "The planets within the Void's reach have been altered - strange mutations have left a permanent mark on planets, and intelligence reports suggest that these changes are even more significant the closer the planets are to the Void itself. What lies inside?"

There are a couple of nice little community challenges going live with the PS Plus drop, too: namely, the Helldivers 2 community is being challenged to collectively eliminate 500 million enemies by 18th August in order to unlock four Helldiver PlayStation avatars.

Helldivers 2 proved popular from the off, very quickly becoming PlayStation's fastest-selling game ever, and performing well-ahead of expectations for the publisher. But it's not just PlayStation fans that are hungry for the game; the title launched on Xbox in September 2025, where it sold 926k copies in the six days after its release.
