The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) seized ₹14.57 lakh in unaccounted cash during a surprise check at the Gerugambakkam panchayat president’s office near Porur on Tuesday night. The check was conducted after an information about an alleged bribe demand for layout approval.
Police sources said a team from the DVAC, Chennai, conducted the check around 7.25 p.m. At the time, the panchayat president and three representatives of a leading construction company were present in the president’s room.
During the check, the officials found ₹14.57 lakh in unaccounted cash in the office. The cash was allegedly meant to facilitate plot approval for the builders.
