Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said that the State Government is ready to collaborate with Indian Army to encourage the State’s youth to participate in various Army recruitment drives.

The Army officers should accordingly organise training programmes in some identified district headquarters to create awareness among local youth for recruitment.

The Chief Minister made this request when General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command Lieutenant General C. Rajesh Pushkar, called on him on Wednesday. The meeting focussed on various issues, including Army recruitment and Army’s role in disaster management.

Responding positively to the Chief Minister’s request, Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar expressed readiness to set up training centres for youth in various district headquarters, ahead of nationwide recruitment drives.

On disaster management issues, Mr. Revanth Reddy said that Army should play a proactive role in rescue operations, evacuating people to safety and taking up rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected areas.

Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar assured that he would instruct local officials to take special initiative during disaster situations in Telangana. He also commended the government’s prestigious Musi River rejuvenation project. “It is the need of the hour to protect Hyderabad by reducing pollution and restoring the city’s historical glory,” he said.

Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Major General Srinivas Rao and other senior Army officials were present.
