Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 this week and the launch has been going surprisingly well. The remake of the classic RPG runs pretty smoothly on Nintendo's current-gen platform thanks to a handful of optimizations. That has been good news for Bethesda and Switch 2 players but frustrating for those who own the game on other platforms, where it has been plagued by issues. Now Bethesda may be fixing that.
After making a celebratory post for the Switch 2 release on X, the official Bethesda Game Studios account responded to continued fan feedback about poor performance on other platforms. "We've heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered," the studio wrote. "The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms, and we will share more when we are able."
Oblivion Remastered was released in April of last year for all other major platforms. Players on PlayStation, Windows PC, and Xbox saw issues such as constant frame rate dips, open-world traversal stuttering, and frequent crashes. Despite post-release patches, players still report encountering these issues. While some glitches are part of the fun in any Bethesda game, persistent performance issues that keep players from actually playing are anything but.
Players are already reporting that the Switch 2 version runs much better than other platforms. While Bethesda didn't give a hard date, fans are sure to want a patch with similar optimizations on other platforms sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma just visited Bethesda Softworks to play The Elder Scrolls 6 while unionized workers protested recent layoffs outside the studio. Sharma said the scale and grandeur of the upcoming RPG were "incredible."
