The Kolathur police have arrested two men for snatching a chain from a 63-year-old woman. The stolen eight-sovereign gold chain was recovered from them.

The incident took place when the victim, Susheela, a resident of Akbar Square Second Street in Kolathur, and her husband were walking to a church on G.K.M. Colony 24th Street on Tuesday morning. When the couple reached G.K.M. Colony 38th Street, two bike-borne men approached them from behind, snatched Susheela’s gold chain, and fled.

Based on her complaint, the Kolathur police registered a case and examined CCTV footage from the area. They traced the motorcycle using its registration number, and identified the suspects as Bharath, 23, and Prakash, 27, both from Aminjikarai. Bharath works in the housekeeping department of a private company, while Prakash is employed as an air-conditioner mechanic.

The police said Bharath was allegedly involved in more than 10 robbery cases, and Prakash in two robbery cases.

Bharath told investigators that he needed money and jewellery for his marriage, which was being arranged by his family.
