Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has got off to a flying start in India, overtaking Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey to register the biggest day-one advance bookings among Hollywood films this year. With a week still to go before its release, the superhero film has already surpassed the final opening-day pre-sales of Nolan's epic in the country's top national cinema chains.

According to reports, Spider-Man: Brand New Day had sold over 1.4 lakh tickets for its opening day across PVR Inox and Cinepolis as of 12 pm on Tuesday, July 21. The figure has already gone past the final day-one pre-sales recorded by The Odyssey in the same chains, despite the film still being a week away from release.

The report by Pinkvilla added that the film is now eyeing over 5 lakh advance ticket sales before release, a milestone that would bring it close to the benchmark set by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which sold around 5.5 lakh tickets in India ahead of its release in 2021.

If the current booking momentum continues, Brand New Day is expected to comfortably cross the 5 lakh mark in the national chains. Based on the film's strong pre-sales trend, Pinkvilla Predicts has projected an opening-day collection of Rs 40 crore to Rs 48 crore nett in India. The report noted that the estimate could be revised upwards if bookings continue at the current pace.

The previous instalment, Spider-Man: No Way Home, enjoyed an exceptional run at the Indian box office, collecting over Rs 265 crore gross.
