One person has died following a crash in Te Awamutu this morning.

Police said the single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Rickit Rd and Hazelmere Cres was reported just after 9.20am.

The sole occupant died at the scene.

The road remained closed and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
